Welcome to World Aluminum (Booth No.: 2A38)!
The initial value of China’s primary aluminum production in March was 3.4199 million tons
The initial value of China’s primary aluminum production in March 2023 was 3.4199 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.92% and a month-on-month increase of 9.78%; the average daily output in March was 110,300 tons, a slight decrease of 0.09 million tons/day from the month-on-month period (the actual production days were 31 days), mainly because Production capacity in Yunnan was concentrated at the end of February, and its impact on production in March was greater than that in February. In March, the operating capacity of the supply side rebounded slowly, mainly contributed by Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Inner Mongolia. However, due to factors such as the rapid decline in aluminum prices in March, technical transformation of projects, and insufficient supply of auxiliary materials, the overall pace of resumption of production was slow.
Goldman Sachs: expects aluminum prices to rise in the next year
Goldman Sachs adjusted the 3/6/12 month aluminum target price to 2650/2800/3200 US dollars / ton (previously 2850/3100/3750 US dollars / ton), and adjusted the LME aluminum average price forecast to 2700 US dollars / ton in 2023 ( Previously it was US$3125/ton). Goldman Sachs believes that the aluminum market has now turned into a deficit. Metal dislocations in Russia reinforce market tightening trends, pointing to relative premium tailwinds. Aluminum prices will rise as inventory levels approach very low levels in the second half of 2023 and 2024. It is predicted that the average price of LME aluminum will be US$4,500/ton in 2024 and US$5,000/ton in 2025.
Looking at the global supply and demand pattern from the perspective of the domestic alumina industry chain
China’s alumina import dependence is decreasing year by year. In 2022, China’s alumina import dependence is only 2.3%, mainly from Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam and other places. In 2022, China’s alumina production capacity will be 99.5 million tons, and the output will be 72.8 million tons. Compared with the ceiling of 45 million tons of electrolytic aluminum, there is excess capacity. The expansion of my country’s alumina production capacity follows the footsteps of the expansion of electrolytic aluminum. Alumina plants whose raw materials are domestic bauxite are mostly built according to mines. The regional concentration of alumina in my country is relatively high. Shandong, Shanxi, Guangxi, and Henan account for 82.5% of the country’s total production capacity. The supply is abundant, and it is sent to Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Yunnan.
Mexico made the final ruling on the first anti-dumping sunset review on Chinese aluminum cookware
On March 31, 2023, Mexico made the first anti-dumping sunset review final ruling on aluminum cookware originating in or imported from China, and decided to maintain the anti-dumping measures determined by the original final ruling on October 13, 2016. It will take effect on October 14, 2021 and will be valid for 5 years.
